Certificate in Health & Social Care (Level 3)

The Level 3 Certificate in Health and Social Care is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) that has been developed by Education Development International (EDI) for the Health and Social Care sector.  The award specifically relates to the delivery of Health and Social Care to individuals. This includes both direct care, where the focus is hands-on care (doing things for the individual) and enablement care, where the focus is on the development and maintenance of the Individual's independence (supporting and enabling individuals to do things for themselves).

Gaining a Health and Social Care qualification at level 3 provides a career pathway that delivers the underpinning knowledge and understanding required of those with ambitions for Supervisory and/or Management care based positions. They offer the opportunity for personal development and enhanced career prospects.

Course Structure

The Health and Social Care Certificate course structure involves an initial 'UK Orientation' phase that is designed to support international student's adaption to UK conditions (via raising the awareness of cultural differences and enhancements to student English proficiency levels).  Thereafter, the classroom based learning will centre on the Certificate's specification, the development of the student's knowledge and understanding across the examination papers see knowledge domains below.  

Paper 1

Use personal, interpersonal and professional skills to deliver a care service

Paper 2

Promote individual's health, safety and security in a care setting

Paper 3

Promote the well being and protection of adults in a care setting


Course Duration

This 24 month full time course involves 15 hours of learning per week.  This will include classroom based learning.

Suitability & Entry Requirements

This qualification is ideally designed to be relevant for students with experience of the Health Care (public, private or voluntary) sector. 

Entry Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 20 with a caring disposition
  • Work experience in Health & Social Care
  • English proficiency equivalent to CEFR Level B2 (* IELTS 5.5)

* Applicants are advised that only English Certificates on the on-line UK Government qualification list are recognised by the Academy. 

Applicants without UK Government recognised English qualifications will undergo the Academy's initial English proficiency assessments.  All applicants subsequently admitted onto the course are advised that their level of English is re-assessed during the UK induction/orientation phase with optional Internationally recognised English certification available.


Assessment

Students are assessed via a summation examination.

Career Prospects

This qualification provides a pathway for health care students that wish to pursue additional skills and responsibilities that are associated with supervisory and/or management type health care qualifications at levels 3 and 4.
